Riley and Hanna

Filed under: my children — ournewjourney @ 3:33 pm

Well, this is the place where I get to brag about my Angels!!

Lets see, Riley is a miracle to say the least! I had been told that I probably would never be able to have kids due to a complication from when I was 18. Well, God planned differently!!

I was in my last semester of college in 2000 and wasn’t feeling well so I decided to take a pregnancy test and lo and behold it was positive!! Jim was at work and I was on my way to a night class and I called him at work and left a voicemail saying he was going to be a Dad!!

That night he picked me up at school and drove me home to see the pregnancy test with his own eyes! Wow, was he thrilled!!! We called a doctor the next day and the following week we went for our 1st visit and got to hear the heartbeat!!!!!!!!

I had a great pregnancy and only wanted watermelon cantaloupe and wonton soup! They told me the baby was going to be big and we decided not to find out what we were having.

The last few weeks of my pregnency were horrible, I couldn’t drive, hardly walk or put shoes on!

On Thursday September 14th I went to Bristol hospital at 4 in the morning to be induced. Well, my Dr never showed!?!? By 2 Jim was at her office and was told she didn’t know I was at the hospital! The nurse called her and she told us to go home and come back at 4.

We did just that and at 5 I was told the baby was in the wrong position and I needed to spend the night and have a csection the next day! I never slept due to crying all night.

The next morning the Dr told us the baby was in bad shape and we needed to get it out! Please God I prayed let the baby be ok!

Off to the operating room and Jim was there and I heard him say “it has my hair”! I then was told it was a boy and we never heard the cry! We found out later that Riley wasn’t breathing he had lodged his head in my hip and his Dr. had to revive him!

Well, today Riley is 6 and you would never know he was that bad!

Now onto Hanna! I was supposed to be having surgery on my thumb in May of 2003 and my Dr. decided to send me for blood work on a Saturday. Well, again Jim was working so off Riley and I went for the blood work. We went home after and the phone rang and my orthopedic told me he just talked to a Gynecologist and I better too!! I dropped the phone and Riley got it and said “Mommy Dr. Wisch said you are going to have a baby”!!

Wow, did this shock us! Jim was shocked and happy at the same time! Again my pregnancy was fine until I received a phone call on a Wednesday telling me that I may need to abort the baby! I was 18 weeks pregnant and supposed to be flying to Florida the next day for my youngest brothers wedding! I was devastated and cried till Jim got home. Well, we decided to send Riley to be in the wedding with my sister and we stayed home.

On Monday September 15th Riley’s 3rd birthday Jim and I went to another hospital for a lvel 2 ultrasound. The tech told me I must have a lot of faith to still be pregnant because anyone else who was told this kind of information would have had a miscarriage.

He did the test and saw the 4 chambers of the heart( I was told by my Dr. there were only 2) and both kidneys(my Dr. said there was only 1) and more than enough amniotic fluid(again, I had no fluid from what my Dr. told me). We decided to find out what we were having and were told she is going to be a healthy baby girl!!!

Well, the rest of my pregnancy went well with new Dr.’s and new hospital and on Monday January 19th Hanna was born via c section and was healthy!

Riley weighed 8lbs 5 ozs 21 inches long and Hanna was 9lbs 7ozs and 20 inches long!

Jim and I

Well, Jim and I met a few times through our childhood. We both were born in the same town and went to a few schools together. I remember him a little fro mjuior high, but we hung out with different crowds. He hung out with the jocks and me, well the trouble makers and older crowd.

We went to the same high school for the same year and then I moved and we never got to know one another. Then, over the summer of 1991 we met again and started talking and then in September of 91 Jim lived with a mutual friend and I started to really notice him!!!

We got together in October and on November 4th we started dating. I moved in shortly after and then we became heavily involved. This really pissed my parents and oh well, I was 20 and didn’t really care what they thought. I was happy and that was all that mattered!

In 1993 we seperated for awhile due to my family and other things going on. This lasted for 4 months and we got back together.

Then, on November 14th of 1995 we decided to goto Bristol Rhode Island and eloped!!! We stayed at the Rockwell House Inn and we were treated like royality!! After 2 bottles of champagne and a gorgeous dinner I called back to tell my parents!?!?

My other was furious and my father I really couldn’t tell what he felt. The only one who knew was my youngest brother Michael because he was house sitting for our cats!!

Jim is the best thing that has ever happened to me! We are so similar and yet the complete opposite!

I love him more and more everyday!!

Who I am

Filed under: about me — ournewjourney @ 2:50 pm

Hello, my name is Lisa and I just turned 36. No, I don’t feel this age at all, I feel like I am a teenager and am glad!

I am an Irish Roman Catholic who was born in Torrington Connecticut to Andrew and Christine Quinn. I have 3 sisters of whom 1 is living and 3 brothers. I am the 2nd youngest and am the “blacksheep” of the family. This used to bother me, but it doesn’t anymore.

I have realized over the years that being the “blacksheep” has only strengthed me instead of hurting me. My skin is very thick and my Mom doesn’t like this very much.

I am not out to please anyone anymore except me and my husband and my kids! I am who I am and if no one likes it oh well!

I have an Associates Degree in Social Work and have not pursued a career in it at all due to the fact that I was in my last semester of school and found out I was pregnant with Riley!

So, I am one day going to continue my education to get my Masters and will one day pursue a career.

Roxanne

Where do I start? How about how she came into my life.

In January of 1998 Jim and I took a trip to Long Island to North Shore Animal League. We had been there the year before to get Muffy for Jim.

Well, this was a trip for me!! I walked in and fell in love with a puppy, but Jim said “no, this sister is for you” so, we looked at “Ginger” and I fell in love. We decided to adopt her and so we sat for 3 hours until we got the word that she was ours!!!

Well, “Ginger” lasted for about 1/2 hour till the song Roxanne came on and Jim said “hey that name fits better than Ginger” and so Roxanne was named!

We drove the 3 hours home with Roxanne sleeping on my lap and when we got home, Muffy came over and took Roxanne off my lap and gave her a bath!
